Project UltraSwan.
Written & photographed by Elinor Osborn, Project
UltraSwan follows the story of the trumpeter swan migration project using ultralight aircraft.
The pilots relate their adventures as they raced the weather trying to teach their young
swans the migration route from western New York to the Chesapeake Bay. Since all trumpeters
were hunted to extinction east of the Mississippi River by 100 years ago there are
no trumpeters left to remember the routes. Now some scientists are hoping to restore
these magnificent birds to the East.
